I still think we'll eventually get back to 12 members. By the end of the decade, I think the Summit League will take Augustana. Augie will ultimately join our football league, completing our Triangle of Football Transcendence.

BTW - Augustana football is currently 7-0, ranked #17 in the D-II coaches' poll. Not too different from Presbyterian's #5 D-II ranking at the end of the 2005 regular season.
It's still in their strategic plan to be D-I by 2030. Without an all-sport D-I conference invitation, however, they can only go D-I in hockey.

I was in Las Vegas for the U2 concert at the Sphere when I saw the article. (An awesome experience-the concert, Red Rocks Canyon, and the Valley of Fire state park. The strip, casinos, etc. are over-the-top.). While I found the article disappointing, it didn’t surprise me. Last September, Athletic Director Greg Christopher responded to a July letter that I had sent to him. The upped stadium cost from $20 million to 30 million in a matter of months kind of hinted that this would happen. However, in a recent October 18th edition of the Cincinnati Business Journal, Christopher mentioned that Xavier has 270 living football alums. That seems high but perhaps it includes club team graduates. He elaborated that 13 football alums are spearheading fund raising efforts and that a master plan for the campus due in early 2024 will include possible stadium sites. He further noted that the non-scholarship model is revenue positive although a 2 million positive margin seems high.
What do I know? I would like to see it happen sooner than later as I am not getting any younger. “Not in the near term” really isn’t defined but I would hope it is less than a decade. Quite frankly, I tire of getting my hopes up but as former Xavier basketball Pete Gillen was often quoted, “Never say never”.

Xavier doesn't need a $30 million stadium to play FCS football, particularly in the Pioneer League. It could start at Corcoran Field, it could play at Purcell or St. X, all sorts of short term options. It's first and foremost about giving kids a chance to compete.

The 30 million price tag, in my estimation, is exorbitant for playing in the Pioneer League. Especially c onside ring purported plans to put up seating at Corcoran Field for the soccer and lacrosse teams. Whether all this is a smokescreen is debatable. The article goes more in detail as to what has been done and where things stand. I guess. It is better than a “it can’t be done”.
