If he prepares his team as well as he prepared himself for that interview, Marist will have great success.

Per CTFOXFAN on the Marist board: "From the looks of it Coach Willis has brought in some staff. TJ Weyl is listed on the Johns Hopkins staff but his X account shows he is now recruiting for Marist. 2nd hire from a superior academic program. My guess is we have our OC. If Marist is trying to impress a superior academic FB conference this is one way to do it."
That last sentence refers to the resurgence of rumors regarding a Marist to the Patriot League move....this is fueled by the Patriot League "big dogs" visiting Marist for the Bucknell game....

Here is background on Weyl from John Hopkins site: "Weyl earned a master’s degree in liberal arts and sciences from Vanderbilt in 2020 and a bachelor’s degree in history from Cornell in 2012." Was offensive quality control coach as well as offensive run game coordinator just hired at Hopkins -- was on Princeton staff previously.

I think it also signals a change in philosophical direction regarding football in particular and athletics in general. You don’t hire a group of very experienced coaches from top programs without an increased financial commitment to greater things. In my mind, Marist is converting all those plane flights to OH, IN, IA, KY, NC, MN, CA, etc. into coaching salaries and bus trips to Patriot League venues and a league championship in a sport the MAAC doesn’t offer while gaining the added prestige the Patriot League offers. If I was in the Marist driver’s seat, I’d go for it. Good luck Foxes 👍

I enjoy having Marist in our conference and I would hate to lose them. However the Pioneer League does not make much sense for you especially when you have so many quality opponents in a close proximity . The Patriot or even the NorthEast league would be a better fit with less travel and you could build attendance with some quality rivals. Even a few schollies would allow you to be competive with most teams in the Patriot. I would love to go back into the SoCon and play some of our historic rivals like Furman, Elon, Citadel, etc. Unfortunately most SoConn schools do not have the Academic restrictions that we do and we would have a tough time competing against the bigger state programs like ETSU, Western, Chatanooga, etc.

I do believe the changes taking place at Marist are intended to make the program attractive to the Patriot. I could see Davidson making its way into the CAA. Obviously it would take a huge financial commitment.
